The MADD  Providence, RI office, is currently seeking candidates for the position of Sr. Victim Advocate

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for assisting victims of drunk driving and their families in identifying the appropriate resources available for crisis intervention, court accompaniment, case management, legal assistance; trauma and hospital care facilities and community law enforcement.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:

1. Provide effective and timely assistance to victims who contact MADD for assistance; ensure completion of Victim Information sheet, document intake of all victim calls, visits and other service requests as necessary.

2. Utilize a network of key individuals in the criminal justice, legal and social service systems within assigned territory to facilitate assistance for victims.

3. Recruit volunteers to work as victims advocate from the general public and provide appropriate training and coaching in accordance with MADD guidelines.

4. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of phone calls, documentation, contacts, referrals, court information, etc. to insure compliance with MADD Victim Assistance Requirements.
5. Assist with planning and scheduling appropriate victim programs.

6. Other duties as assigned.
 
 
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

1. Minimum of five years of experience as a MADD Victim Advocate or in another organization working with crime victims.

2. Bachelor’s degree in social work, education or counseling preferred. 

3. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills; ability to establish rapport with individuals in difficult situations; and high level of customer service initiative required.

4. Ethical behavior and confidentiality are a must in this position.

5. Transportation to court attendance is required along with a flexible schedule.

6. Completion of all required MADD Victim Assistance Training at the beginning and advanced levels.

 

Past experience in victim advocacy to include court accompaniment, prosecution, and background in law enforcement protocol specific to DUI.
Experience in underage drinking efforts that address eliminating DUI in order to decrease DUI fatality and serious injury in community/school  setting. Training the trainer experience a plus. Established state and community networking helpful
