TOP DUI Officers Honored at 100 Club   Banquet

“We are so grateful for the outstanding performance and dedicated service these top officers have demonstrated to the people of Mississippi as they strive to keep our roadways safe from drunk driving,” stated Tricia Raymond.

 

 

 

 

Mississippi  Facts on Drunk Driving

* 297 people died on Mississippi roads in 2008

* 302 people died on Mississippi roads in 2007

* Since 2000 ... 2,757 people have been killed on MS roadways due to drunk driving crashes (nearly equivalent to the population of Quitman MS )

* There were 24,230 DUI arrests made in 2008, a 22% increase from 2007

* Mississippians between ages 15 & 20 account for 10% of drunk driving fatalities

* Underage drinking in MS costs $534 million

In 2008, MADD MS …

* Participated in 11 community events, reaching 5,317 people

* Provided programs in 22 schools across the state reaching 11,057 students

* Organized and monitored 102 Victim Impact Panels, ensuring that 4,751 first time offenders heard the consequences of drunk driving (a 33.5% increase from 2007)

* Served and supported 62 new victims of drunk driving crashes

* Visited law enforcement agencies in 35 counties, expressing our appreciation for their work and educating them about what we do

* Worked with 3 Youth In Action teams and 2 UMADD teams, engaging more than 100 young people
