Board of Directors

MADD's national board of directors is made up of volunteers – most of whom began their involvement at MADD by volunteering their time at local MADD offices in their communities – and nationally recognized researchers and business leaders.


Robert Strassburger, Chairman of the Board
Strassburger has been affiliated with the automotive industry in various capacities for over 29 years. Prior to joining Nissan, Strassburger held several safety, engineering and vehicle emissions positions at Mazda North American Operations.

Steven Benevenisti
Steven Benevenisti is a partner at the law firm of Davis, Saperstein & Salomon, where he represents victims of drunk driving and their families, and shares his story of being severly injured by a drunk driver his senior year of college to audiences around the country.

Barbara Brodt
In June 1983, Barbara Brodt founded the MADD Denver Metro Chapter — now the Colorado State Affiliate — out of her home in honor of her mother, Dorothy Brodt, who was senselessly killed by a drunk driver.

Brad Bulla
Brad Bulla joined MADD in 2005 when his son Jed's life was cut short when he took a ride with an underage drunk driver.

Sally Ganem
Sally Ganem is the First Lady of Nebraska and a former elementary school principal.  Born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, she received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Mary Klotzbach
Mary Klotzbach became involved in MADD in 2002 after her son Matthew Thomas – home on leave from the United States Naval Acadamy – was killed by a drunk driver in July 2001 while driving home from an afternoon spent with Mary and her husband Tom.

Frank Magourilos
Frank Magourilos is a Senior Prevention Specialist for the Santa Fe County DWI Program, and is a National Trainer and Consultant with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

Nicole Nason
Confirmed by the U.S. Senate in 2006, Nicole R. Nason served as the youngest-ever Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the federal agency responsible for regulating the safety of our Nation’s vehicles.

Kathryn Nelson
Former President of MADD Hawaii, Kathryn Nelson has been involved with MADD in Hawaii since 1995.

Courtney Popp
Courtney Popp is one of two Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutors (“TSRP”) for the State of Washington.

Paul Romero
Paul Romero has been a member of MADD New Mexico since 2001 where he has served as the state Public Policy Chairman and the state Treasurer.

Colleen Sheehey
Colleen Sheehey comes to the Board of Directors for Mothers Against Drunk Driving as a successful businesswoman and a victim.  On July 10, 2004, her son Dustin was killed by a drunk driver.

Mahesh Shetty
Mahesh Shetty is Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Encore Enterprises, Inc., a Dallas-based real estate investment company.

Bryce Templeton
Since 1996, Bryce Templeton has active worked to prevent alcohol-impaired vehicular crashes. He served as the advisory board member and chair for the five-county MADD affiliate in Southeastern Pennsylvania, an advisory board member and chair for the Pennsylvania state affiliate; and as a member of MADD’s National Board of Directors.

Brian Ursino
Brian Ursino retired as Assistant Chief of the Washington State Patrol in February 2010 after more than 30-years of service and is now the Director of Law Enforcement for the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators.

Monica Vandeheli
Monica Vandeheli is a student at Belmont University in Nashville, TN.  In high school she completed more that 350 hours of community service — most of which was with MADD Connecticut.

Nina Walker
Nina Walker joined MADD in October 2002 following the drunk driving crash that took the life of her 22-year old daughter Ginger.  In addition to two sisters, Ginger left behind a three year old son that Nina and her husband Gary are now raising. 

William Windsor
Bill Windsor is the Associate Vice President of Consumer Safety for Nationwide, and advocates for safety initiatives that help Nationwide policyholders prevent losses and protect what matters to them most including key issues like drunk driving, underage drinking, teen driving, building codes and distracted driving.

Jan Withers, MADD National President
Jan Withers joined MADD in 1992, after her 15-year-old daughter, Alisa Joy, was killed by an underage drinker who chose to drive after consuming numerous beers. She first volunteered by sharing her story and lobbying for tougher legislation. Her new focus in life was to try to make a difference by helping to stop this preventable violent crime.
