MADD'S CAMPAIGN TO ELIMINATE DRUNK DRIVING
Overview Can you picture a nation without drunk driving? Not only can we picture it, we are going to do it. MADD’s Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving is a bold initiative with the ambitious, but attainable, goal of eliminating drunk driving once and for all. To achieve that goal, we’re mobilizing a network of affiliates, volunteers and like-minded organizations to take the fight against drunk driving to a new and unprecedented level. Law Enforcement High-visible enforcement crackdowns, including checkpoints and saturation patrols, are proven to get drunk drivers off the road. As a part of the Campaign, we fully support drunk driving crackdowns preceding the Labor Day and December holidays as well as sustained enforcement efforts throughout the year. Click HERE to go to Law Enforcement. Ignition Interlocks One of the most effective ways of stopping convicted drunk drivers from continuing to drive drunk is the use of ignition interlock devices. The Campaign focuses on encouraging states to enact model laws that require alcohol ignition interlock devices for all convicted drunk drivers. Click HERE to go to Ignition Interlocks. Advanced Technology Emerging technology is one of the most promising and potentially effective approaches to eliminating drunk driving in the U.S. The Campaign involves the development of new technology through a non-regulatory, voluntary and data driven effort that allows a vehicle to recognize if a driver is drunk, and to stop the driver from operating that vehicle. Click HERE to go to Advanced Technology. Public Support In building support for the Campaign’s initiatives, MADD is uniting families, community leaders, policy makers, law enforcement agencies, judicial organizations, auto manufacturers, insurers, technology companies, safety advocates and health care professionals to eliminate drunk driving.
