the national day of giving at the start of the annual holiday season.

Each year during the holiday season there is a day  for shopping in stores — “Black Friday” — and a day for shopping online — “Cyber Monday. ”  Now, there is a day for Americans to show they give as good as they get.

Today is the first ever #GivingTuesday™!   This new annual celebration is less about buying gifts and more about giving back.

Since #GivingTuesday was designed to kick off the giving season, we realized that there couldn’t possibly be a better day than today to launch our 2012 holiday fundraising campaign.

We’ve set a goal to raise $200,000 this holiday season.  I know, it seems like a lot, but with this $200,000 carrying us into the new year, we’re confident that we’ll be able to make great strides in 2013.

We plan to: continue advocating for new legislation in states that currently do not require convicted drunk drivers to use ignition interlock devices; equip more parents and teens with the tools they need to prevent underage drinking; and serve even more victims and survivors of drunk and drugged driving in 2013 and beyond — until there are no more victims to serve.

Your support will save lives in 2013.

But don’t just take our word for it.  Here are videos of MADD volunteers telling their story and why they choose to support MADD.

You can help make #GivingTuesday — the giving season’s opening day — a success by donating to MADD today!
