This Saturday, January 19th, is the National Day of Service. President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama are asking Americans to find an event and serve with others in their community. We hope you will use this National Day of Service to get in contact with your local MADD office to see how you can get more involved.
MADD’s wonderful volunteers help raise awareness about drunk driving and underage drinking, as well as provide the vital support to those victimized by drunk driving. There are so many different ways you can get involved.
Here are a few examples of the types of volunteer opportunities with MADD:
- Become a trained victim advocate and provide emotional support to drunk driving victims/survivors as well as guide them through the criminal justice system.
- Work with MADD’s public policy department to strengthen existing laws and enact new ones.
- Share your story at schools, civic groups, clubs and other organizations.
- Ensure that drunk driving offenders are punished to the fullest extent of the law by monitoring court cases and reporting outcomes to the community and media.
Whether you’re interested in volunteering a couple of times a year or a couple of times a week, there’s a place for you at MADD. And we have a wide variety of opportunities to match your interests and expertise.
President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama have chosen to make Saturday a special day of service to highlight volunteerism in the country, and we hope that you will use this day to find your place as a MADD volunteer.

Happy Holidays!
This holiday season, I am celebrating my wonderful family and friends, and the incredible progress we've made together this year. For the first time in history, drunk driving deaths have fallen below 10,000, and we could not have done that without your help—your support, your donations, your time spent volunteering, your emails and phone calls to legislators, your participation in Walk Like MADD and other events, and even your Facebook shares and re-tweets!
To show my thanks, I want to share with you a special Holiday video message.
Thanks to you, each year we save more lives, serve more victims and bring awareness to the dangers of drunk driving and underage drinking.
We know that there is still much work to be done and we won’t stop until there are no more drunk driving deaths. I hope that you’ll stand with us until we achieve that goal.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for all that you do for MADD, and happy holidays!
Warmly,
Jan Withers

| #GivingTuesday:
the national day of giving at the start of the annual holiday season.
|
|
Each year during the holiday season there is a day for shopping in stores — “Black Friday” — and a day for shopping online — “Cyber Monday. ” Now, there is a day for Americans to show they give as good as they get.
Today is the first ever #GivingTuesday™! This new annual celebration is less about buying gifts and more about giving back.
Since #GivingTuesday was designed to kick off the giving season, we realized that there couldn’t possibly be a better day than today to launch our 2012 holiday fundraising campaign.
We’ve set a goal to raise $200,000 this holiday season. I know, it seems like a lot, but with this $200,000 carrying us into the new year, we’re confident that we’ll be able to make great strides in 2013.
We plan to: continue advocating for new legislation in states that currently do not require convicted drunk drivers to use ignition interlock devices; equip more parents and teens with the tools they need to prevent underage drinking; and serve even more victims and survivors of drunk and drugged driving in 2013 and beyond — until there are no more victims to serve.
Your support will save lives in 2013.
But don’t just take our word for it. Here are videos of MADD volunteers telling their story and why they choose to support MADD.
You can help make #GivingTuesday — the giving season’s opening day — a success by donating to MADD today!

National President
Thanksgiving is Thursday (I can’t believe 2012 is already coming to an end!), and this year there are so many things I’m thankful for — like my family, my friends and MADD. I’m thankful for a way to honor my daughter, Alisa Joy, each and every day through my work with MADD. I’m thankful that after all of this time, I can see a future without drunk driving.
I’m also thankful for you. Your time, money and support of MADD’s mission has helped us save almost 300,000 lives and serve more than 300,000 victims and survivors… and counting.
While it felt like a whirlwind to me, we’ve done some amazing things together this year — our MADD family helped pass stronger ignition interlock laws in several states, served one victim of drunk driving every eight minutes, and assembled a Power of You(th)™ Teen Influencer Group that helped us create a teen booklet to help prevent underage drinking.
So, thank you for your support — we could not make such important change in the world without committed supporters like you.
Wishing you a warm, safe and happy Thanksgiving, from all of the MADD volunteers, staff and board members!
