Arizona MADD Memory Quilts

These quilts are for all victims of drunk drivers, death or injury.

About the Quilts

The Arizona quilt program went by the wayside for a few years and we would now like to offer quilt squares again to families who would like to commemorate their loved ones in this way.

Display of Quilts

MADD Memory Quilts are displayed around the state at a variety of events and programs.  These quilts are filled with memories and are not replicable so they are taken care of with the utmost respect. We do our best to make sure the quilts are carefully stored and displayed to preserve them.

Creating Your Quilt Square

VERY IMPORTANT:

PLEASE READ ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE

YOU WORK ON YOUR QUILT SQUARE .

  • Each quilt square has been carefully measured and pre-cut for you. It has also been marked with a narrow blue line. The blue line will be the outside of your finished quilt block.
  •    The blue lines are your guide to placement within the block. Please make sure that your design is centered within the blue lines. Your design cannot cross the blue line.
  • Do not wash your quilt block or get it wet. The blue line will disappear if you get it wet as it is only a temporary line for you to use as a guide.
  • If you would like a picture made you can call or visit your local shirt shop and ask them to make a picture transfer that can be applied to a quilt.   Using your home computer printer for making photo transfers is NOT recommended.
  • Please DO NOT glue any objects to the square. All items should be sewn on and be as flat as possible so as not to catch on other squares or fall off the quilt.

Suggestions and Tips for Quilt Squares

Think about what you would like to say about your loved one and start from there. Your quilt block will represent you or your loved one. Be creative!

You can do any of the following:

  • Use computer sewing machine for monogramming
  • Do hand embroidery or machine monogramming
  • Do counted cross stitch.  (Counted Cross stitch can be done on a separate piece of fabric and then attached to the working area of the block.)
  • Use an iron on transfer
  • Do appliqué patterns
  • Do smocking patterns
  • Airbrush painting

Remembrance Pages for Memory Book

Please write a one page biography about your loved one or yourself. Also, submit a wallet sized photograph. This biography and photo will become a part of a memory book which will be displayed with the quilts. Photos will not be returned.

Submitting Your Completed Block and Biography

Once you have completed your quilt block, written the biography and made a copy of the picture of your loved one please place everything together in the bag you received it in so that none of the items will get lost. It can can be dropped off or mailed to the at the MADD office. Dropping it off at the MADD office is preferred to guarantee its safe arrival.
