BEGINNER PROJECTS:
- Letter to the Editor/ Op Ed. - Why21.org, *Raise awareness of Social Host, etc.
- Series of School Intercom Announcements- Why21.org, other stats, roll play
- *Articles and announcements on bulletin boards of local churches about Why21
- Chalk It Up with media coverage
- Speak to local adult groups- churches, businesses, etc.
- Tie One On For Safety in School Parking Lot with permission and media coverage (not YIA without media, even an intercom announcement counts)
- Can be done in rival basketball game
- Can be done with police office/ SRO as students drive into school with parents
ADVANCED PROJECTS:
- *NEW: Follow-up to Social Host to ensure community awareness and/or police enforcement
- *NEW: Alco-pops Presentation for parents/ law enforcement to ensure adults know the difference between non-alcoholic and alcoholic
- *NEW: Meeting with local senator or representative
- *NEW: Participation in Town Hall Meeting or host Town Hall Meeting
- *NEW: Presentation on Why21 for church groups
- Combined core/beginner projects
- County-wide or Regional Core-Projects/ Beginner Projects (Ex- Sticker Shock 75% of retailers by May 2008)
- *NEW: Sticker Shock Alternatives/ Extensions: Table Tent Flyers at alcoholic restaurants; Counter Displays at local mini-marts; Register stickers and Posters about Fake ID Checks; "Hey You the drinking age is 21" Stickers on non-alcoholic mixers for alcoholic beverages.
- Conduct two community surveys before and after a project to gage effectiveness
- *NEW: Parade of law enforcement with TOOFS ribbons to Tie One On For Safety Event with Press Conference
- Participate in Press Conference on underage drinking/ MADD
- *NEW: Interview with News Station on upcoming project or Why21 (Contact news station and request to be pre-interviewed for a morning news cast. The news stations frequently need pre-taped interviews to fill open spaces in the morning on slow news days. They'll air your story when they need something to fill air time).
- PSA- Radio, TV, Movie Theatre- *No funding available
- *NEW: Underage Drinking Awareness Fact (Product) Placement in local store near mixers, alcohol, doors, windows, front lanes, or entrance (posters and other signage).
- *NEW: Any form of outdoor advertising
- *NEW: Students design and place magnets with a message to parents/adults not to provide. These magnets are placed in break rooms in businesses where parents/adults are anticipated to work.
- *NEW: Work with local police to enforce alcohol zoning and venue regulations (Ex.- Powell Co. Police confiscated liquor and other drugs from parked vehicles at a non-alcoholic County Fair Event, while students hosted awareness booth at fair entrance)
- *NEW: Work with law enforcement and law enforcement state liaisons to provide training on safe party patrol, and use of Facebook and Myspace applications to locate and stop underage drinking parties before they occur.
- *NEW: Work with School Officials to tighten School's Policy on Underage Drinking
- PUBLIC POLICY
- Wet/Dry Counties: Social Host Ordinance- closes loophole in existing law to give police authority to hold responsible parties accountable for hosting an underage drinking party. www.madd.org/socialhost/
