Volunteer Legislative Committee Drunk driving and its consequences can be prevented. Tackling it requires the involvement of every concerned citizen. You can take action to make your community a healthier and safer place. Join a growing number of people across the nation who have launched coordinated efforts to prevent drunk driving in their communities. As a member of the Legislative Committee, you will help steer the public policy efforts of MADD Louisiana. If you are interested in joining this committee, contact Donna Tate at donna.tate@madd.org or 225.926.0807.
Victim Advocacy MADD-LA is looking for volunteers who are willing to be trained as Victim Advocates. Did you know that we only have three Victim Advocates in the entire state? MADD Victim Advocates assist with the criminal justice proceedings and, in many cases, will accompany victim survivors to court. They also provide referrals of local professional counselors, civil attorneys and clergy who are skilled at working with crash victims. If you are interested in learning more about this position, contact Valerie Cox at valerie.cox@madd.org or 225.926.0807.
Victim Impact Panels We currently have 21 active Victim Impact Panels being held across the state and we could use more speakers. Victim Impact Panels provide a forum for victims to tell their stories to a court-appointed audience of DUI offenders. If you are interested in speaking at a panel in your community or forming a panel in your community, contact April Higgins at april.higgins@madd.org or 225.926.0807.
Court Monitoring The Court Monitoring Program is a tool to observe the DWI/DUI criminal justice system and create accountability. The program is focused on forming strong strategic alliances with law enforcement, judges, prosecutors, and the defense bar, including public defenders. Program Manager, Elizabeth Riffle, has been busy training local college students in the New Orleans and Baton Rouge area and we are in the process of securing additional funding to expand this program throughout our state. For more information about Court Monitoring, contact Leonce (Skip) Malus at skip.malus@madd.org or 225.926.0807
Walk Like MADD Walk Like MADD, MADD’s signature event, is a fun, community-driven 5K walk/run that raises funds and saves lives. Every step taken and every pledge made will help raise funds and awareness for MADD’s programs and services that will serve to make our communities safer. This year's event will be held May 2, 2009 on the old Front Nine on the LSU campus. To volunteer at this fun event, contact Donna Tate at donna.tate@madd.org or 225.926.0807 . | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
