Online Defensive Driving Course

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and DriveSafeLa.org have joined forces to promote safe driving in our state. The result of this alliance is that any driver in Louisiana who registers for the online defensive driving course offered by DriveSafeLA.org through MADD’s Web site will not only receive up to a 10% discount on their personal auto insurance but DriveSafeLA.org will make a contribution to MADD equal to 20% of the cost of the course.

The online defensive driving course offered by DriveSafeLA.org is approved and certified by the Department of Public Safety and Corrections and the Louisiana Insurance Rating Commission in accordance with Louisiana Revised Statutes 22:1404, which states:

Ҥ1404. Making of rates Discounts; rate reductions
(c)(I) A.(1) A rate reduction of up to ten percent shall be authorized by theLouisiana  Insurance Rating Commission … on motor vehicle liability and physical damage insurance… upon successful completion of a defensive driving course approved and certified by the Department of Public Safety and Corrections.”

Therefore, MADD and DriveSafeLA.org are recommending this course as an alternative to the current classroom defensive driving courses you require drivers who find themselves in your traffic court for a variety of violations. This course is comprehensive and convenient and has been proven to improve driving.

As you are well aware, according to the Louisiana Department of Public Safety, traffic crashes are the leading cause of death in the United States for ages four to 34 years old and the third leading cause of death for all ages combined. In 2005, there were 43,443 people killed and nearly 2.7 million injured in traffic crashes, and traffic crashes result in a societal cost of more than $240 billion each year.  More than 39 percent of all traffic fatalities in the United States are alcohol related.

In 2005, traffic crashes in Louisiana were responsible for 963 fatalities, and alcohol was involved in 402 (42%) of Louisiana ’s 963 crash fatalities. In 2005, 108 were killed as pedestrians, 74 were killed on motorcycles, and 22 were killed on bicycles.

MADD and DriveSafeLA.org support you in your efforts to promote safe driving in our state and offer this online defensive driving course as a solution to this growing problem.
