in recognizing law enforcement and encouraging the prioritization of OWI arrests.  Record, report and honor law enforcement officers in your community.  Keep Michigan roads safe.

Recognition Program
SALUTE Michigan Law Enforcement is a recognition program that encourages agencies to prioritize drunk driving arrests.

Law enforcement officers earn an insignia bar* based on their annual number of OWI arrests.

Recognition Benefits
Providing recognition to law enforcement officers for OWI arrests is designed to help achieve the program goals of:

•  Increasing the average number of arrests per participant.

•  Increasing the number of the participating agencies in the program each year.

•  Increasing the prioritization of impaired driving arrests for law enforcement.

Program Requirements
On an annual basis the agency  provides the completed SALUTE reporting form to MADD Michigan.  This form is available below as well as at
www.michigan.gov/ohsp.   For validation purposes the form should be printed, have original signatures and be mailed to MADD Michigan, P.O. Box 21157, Lansing, Michigan  48909.  Faxed copies cannot be accepted.

The recording periods are from January 1st through December 31st.  Reports will be accepted until the following August 31st.

Recognition Ceremony
A community recognition ceremony is an important component of the SALUTE program. It provides law enforcement leadership an opportunity to express appreciation and vision, while fostering greater community awareness and appreciation.  Suggested presentation formats might include:  roll call briefing, department ceremony or municipal governmental meeting.

If there is a MADD entity in your agency area, they can assist you with the presentation and media coverage.

*Each agency determines whether the bar can be affixed to the officer’s uniform.
