MADD's National Programs Department specializes in developing and maintaining public awareness programs at the chapter, state, and national level, involving the community as a whole in supporting MADD's mission. The department continually looks for new ways for MADD to reach a diverse population, with particular attention focused on helping youth.

Youth In Action

MADD's community-based partnership with concerned youth to combat underage drinking.

Because of its long time commitment to the work of law enforcement, MADD designed Youth In Action, a program that trains young people to assist the enforcement community in the difficult work of stopping underage drinking. Across the nation, teens are volunteering to assist with Compliance Checks, organizing Alcohol Purchase Surveys to help identify the need for increased enforcement and conducting Roll Call Briefings to encourage peace officers to enforce underage drinking related laws.  Youth In Action also encourages teens to support the work of enforcement by participating in recognition events to ensure that the work of the enforcement officials does not go unnoticed in their communities.

PY/PM: Protecting You, Protecting Me

Protecting You/Protecting Me (PY/PM) is an alcohol use prevention curriculum for children in grades 1-5.  It has been designated a Model Program by SAMHSA, a division of the U.S. Department of Health.  PY/PM helps reach children before they have fully shaped their attitudes and opinions about alcohol use by youth.  PY/PM provides a series of science and health based lessons that teach children how to protect themselves and make informed decisions.  The lessons reinforce the fact that the brain of children and adolescents are still maturing and respond to alcohol dramatically differently than those of adults, putting children at a much higher risk.  In addition, the lessons also cover a variety of life skills including media awareness, communication and vehicle safety

Court Monitoring

Court Monitoring is a program in which trained volunteers observe and gather data on DUI/DWI court proceedings, including arraignments, pretrial hearings, trials and sentencing.

Victim Services

Long after a crash, survivors still feel the impact.  MADD Victim Services provides assistance with the medical, emotional, and legal struggles that follow a drunk driving crash.
