Protecting You/Protecting Me is a evidence-based alcohol use prevention curriculum for children in grades 1-5.  It has been designated a Model
Program by SAMHSA, a division of the U.S. Department of Health and is available in English, Spanish, and a version tailored for the American Indian.
PY/PM helps reach children before they have fully shaped their attitudes and opinions about alcohol use by youth.

PYPM1  Protecting You/Protecting Me provides a series of science and health based lessons that teach children how to protect themselves and make informed decisions.  These lessons reinforce the fact that the brains of children and adolescents are still maturing and respond to alcohol dramatically differently than do those of adults, putting children at a much higher risk.  They also cover a variety of life skills including media awareness, communication, and vehicle safety.

Developed for Busy Teachers:
  • Aligned with the goals of No Child Let Behind
  • Content linked to the NM educational standards
  • Easily infused into core curriculum
  • Total contact time only about 4-6 hours
  • Persuasive record of proven impact on attitudes
 PYPM3
PYPM4  Research shows that the risk for alcohol and other drug use skyrockets when children enter the 6th grade, between the ages of 12 and 13To be effective in preventing alcohol use by teenagers, we must reach out to and educate children in grades one through five. Protecting You/ Protecting Me is a nationwide effort to equip young people with the skills they need to make healthy decisions and keep themselves safe.
