SUPPORT MADD IN GETTING STRONGER IGNITION INTERLOCK LAWS!
![]() One of the newest technologies to combat drunk driving is the Ignition Interlock. This device is designed to stop DUI offenders from driving by disabling their car's ignition if their breathe exceeds the legal sobriety limit after breathing into a handheld tester. The link below will lead you to a page where you can show your support for Ignition Interlocks and stronger DUI laws. Once you click on the link, look to your right and click on the link TAKE ACTION, it will then take you to a link to vote for the ignition interlocks and once you enter all your info an entire page will come up for frequent offender laws and also child endangerment for injuring a child. This is how laws got passed in Ohio also.
Ignition Interlock A fundraising effort is currently underway through the MADD National Office, involving requests by phone for donations. The South Carolina MADD State Office was NOT aware of this and apologizes for any inconvenience these calls may have caused. If you have any questions, concerns or have received a call please call the State Office at 803-748-7333 and speak to Wendy-Ann Haynes / Fundraising Coordinator or via email at MADDSCFundraiser@aol.com
Mothers Against Drunk Driving supports providing tools, resources and training to law enforcement to allow them to stop drunk driving and prevent underage drinking. MADD is committed to the Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving that includes interlocks for all convicted drunk drivers' vehicles and increased enforcement such as checkpoints and patrols to deter drunk driving. Unfortunately, South Carolina will need to work on closing many loopholes in its law to help stop drunk driving and equip enforcement officers with the legislative backing needed to secure drunk driving arrests, including: higher penalties needed for breath test refusal, and recognition of .08 per se law.
