Volunteering

MADD is all of us - we're dads, daughters, sons, aunts, uncles, friends and neighbors,
And mothers. We're  all ages and from all walks of life. We are many colors with one voice, to eliminate drunk driving, serve victims/survivors and prevent underage drinking.

You customize your membership profile to let us know the level of participation you wish. MADD offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities for you to get involved. Utilize and develop your skills, talents and interests in support of your local community. You can call your local chapter and volunteer for an hour, a day or a lifetime (see "Home" page for a listing of local chapters). Volunteering is the key to solving our state's drunk driving and underage drinking problems. Listed here are some ways you can get involved: 

Become a FriendInDeed

MADD is please to announce FriendsInDeed. This exciting new initiative is possible because of your support, and we thank you for helping make this dream a reality.  A larger volunteer base helps us extend our reach into the Central Texas area, and will bring us closer to our vision of a state without drunk driving

“Volunteer Orientation Sept. 24th

Are you new to MADD and want to learn all about what we do and how you can help? Or maybe you’ve been around a while and want to know the latest and greatest in programs and services. Whatever your motivation, please come to the MADD Fall Volunteer Orientation!

On Wednesday, September 10th from 6-8pm here in the MADD office, we’ll teach you all about MADD’s history, mission and what’s going on right here in central Texas. You will learn about all the exciting volunteer opportunities we have, and will leave with the tools to help spread the word to put and end to drunk driving. 

We’ve got a lot of work to do, and need your help to do it, so come learn how to get started!

Advocate for Change
MADD public policy activists are working to strengthen existing laws and to enact new ones. Learn more about how to influence legislation and law enforcement at national, state and local levels.

Lend a Shoulder
Become trained in victim advocacy to provide emotional support to victims of drunk driving crashes and to guide victims through the criminal justice system.

Help a Victim be Heard
Coordinate victim impact panels  in your county by assigning victim speakers and registering drunk driving offenders ordered to attend as part of probation.

Drop a Line
The power of the pen - Contact law enforcement agencies and read local newspapers to find out about drunk driving crashes. Send victims "We Care" cards to let them know MADD is available for support.

Visit Your Favorite Restaurant
Work with local restaurants and drinking establishments to promote awareness and "Designate A Driver" programs to keep their patrons and our roads safe.

Utilize Your Fundraising or Office Skills
Answer phones, data entry or other support duties. MADD fundraising events need experienced  volunteers.

Take the Lead
Lend your leadership skills as a community action team coordinator to change local politics, or as an affiliate, state or national level volunteer.

Visit the Courts
MADD's presence is powerful  - Ensuring that drunk driving offenders are punished to the fullest extent of the law by monitoring court cases and reporting outcomes to the community and media.

Roll Up Your Sleeves
Join MADD members in hosting public awareness at community events such as parades, fairs, safe proms and graduation events.

Tie One On
Distribute MADD red ribbons to encourage people not to drink and drive. Tie a MADD red ribbon or place a static decal on your vehicle to show your commitment to drive safe and sober.

Build a Team
Coordinate a team of people to create change at the local level. All too frequently we hear from folks about a problem with lack of DWI prosecution or other alcohol violations in their area - write letters, contact you local paper and media, raise awareness and mobilize voters!

Be a Role Model
Assist youth in learning about the dangers of underage drinking and lead the way in making positive changes. Help organize and sponsor a Youth In Action group for ages 15 to 18 to mentor youth in your community, or form a UMADD group on your college campus.

Speak Out
Join your local MADD Speakers Bureau - Present facts about and solutions for drunk driving and underage drinking by speaking at schools, civic groups, organizations and clubs.

Today MADD has nearly 3 million members and supporters nationally. Whether you are eight, 18 or 68, you can become involved with MADD. Utilize your skills, talents and abilities to help solve our country's drunk driving and underage drinking problems. Be a voice for Changing Attiudes and Saving Lives .
