Ignition Interlock Legislation •Targeting
–All convicted drunk drivers
–Includes first time offenders at .08 or above
•Voluntary administrative program
–Short hard license suspension period
–Offender chooses either more hard suspension or interlock restricted license
•Mandatory judicial program
–If the device is on administratively, credit is given for time on the device
–If not, time starts from day one
•Mandatory administrative program
–If a mandatory interlock is not ordered by the court, it can be imposed by the administrative agency upon license reinstatement
•All interlocks used should be:
•Interlocks should continue on the vehicle until an offender can demonstrate sober driving for a period of time that indicates a behavior change
–If the person fails, the interlock period should be extended
