Youth Programs

Protecting You Protecting Me (PY/PM)

Research shows that the risk for alcohol and other drug use skyrockets when children enter the 6th grade, between the ages of 12 and 13. To be effective in preventing alcohol use by teenagers, we must reach out to and educate children in grades one through five.

Protecting You/Protecting Meis a classroom based alcohol and safety prevention curriculum for grades 1-5.  It teaches students about the risks of underage alcohol use, adolescent brain development and vehicle safety skills. It has been designated a Model Program by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Click here  PY/PM to learn more.

The Zoo DVD Class Pack

MADD’s The Zoo Multimedia Class Pack give schools a dynamic resource they can use year-round. Because they’re designed for use with smaller audiences, Class Packs encourage conversation and interaction. Students get a chance to talk and share their feelings about the important decisions and difficult choices they make in regard to alcohol and underage drinking.  Click here The ZOO to learn more.

Broadband

The Broadband DVD Class Pack is designed for use with students in grades 7-12. When used as instructed, this classroom tool will challenge students to take a hard look at the choices they make everyday. The resource explores issues teens deal with daily and includes topics such as underage drinking, teen driving safety, media and advertising influences, law enforcement, substance use, consequences, choices and empowerment.  Click here Broadband to learn more.

Year-Round Class Pack Resource

MADD’s Multimedia Class Packs give schools a dynamic resource they can use year-round. Because they’re designed for use with smaller audiences, Class Packs encourage conversation and interaction. Students get a chance to talk and share their feelings about the important decisions and difficult choices teens face in middle and high school including those about underage drinking.  Click here Class Packs to learn more.

Youth In Action(YIA)

Youth In Action is not the “Just say no” of your generation. Youth In Action is a community-based program utilizing high school and college students as agents of change in the prevention of underage drinking.  YIA projects empower young people in preventing underage drinking through focusing on reducing underage access to alcohol.   The Youth In Action projects and activities focus on limiting youth access to alcohol by targeting social and retail access, and by working with law enforcement to support the enforcement of underage drinking laws. By consistently doing projects and sustaining Youth In Action groups, this program can help create healthier and safer communities.  Click here YIA to learn more.

AlcoholEdu for High School

Alcohol and underage drinking are significant issues in the lives of high school students. AlcoholEdu for High School is a Web-based course that incorporates proven underage drinking prevention techniques with essential science-based alcohol education.  Click here AlcoholEdu to learn more.

College Initiatives

Irresponsible drinking on college campuses has reached epidemic proportions. To make a real difference, students, faculty, law enforcement, parents and community members must all work together. MADD has resources for all these groups.  Click here UMADD to learn more.

Partners for Youth/Alcohol Education Class

MADD East Texas has partnered with the City of Tyler Municipal Court  , DPS, and victims of drunk driving crashes to provide an educational program to youth that have received alcohol-related citations (minors in possession, public intoxication, etc.).  As an added measure to the traditional punishments for alcohol citations, youth attend a 4 hour education class hosted by MADD and MADD volunteers that offers an opportunity for discussion, as well as accounts of first hand experiences of the seriousness of underage drinking.
