The mission of Mothers Against Drunk Driving is to stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking.

The Kitsap County Site was founded in 1982, by Ruby DeSantis after her 13 year old son was killed on Wheaton Way by an impaired driver.  MADD is moms, dads, daughters, sons, friends, neighbors and concerned citizens of all ages and from all walks of life.

Nearly 200 people are killed in Washington State in alcohol-related traffic crashes each year.  Underage drinking is America ’s No. 1 youth drug problem, killing more young people than all other illicit drugs combined.  MADD is not against responsible alcohol consumption by those 21 and older.

MADD is one of the nation’s largest crime victim assistance organizations with more than 1,200 trained victim advocates.  We offer a wide range of free support services and information for victims/survivors of drunk driving such as court accompaniment and candlelight vigils.  1-877-MADD-HELP connects victims/survivors to trained staff for support 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

MADD  Kitsap County supports all law enforcement agencies in Kitsap County in their efforts to stop drunk driving with a yearly awards banquet, donations of portable breathalyzer test units, and attending DUI emphasis patrols.

MADD Kitsap’s youth focus includes initiatives that directly involve young people in preventing underage drinking.  Programs include a yearly youth conference, mock crash assemblies and multimedia school assembly shows.

MADD  Kitsap County wants your support in our efforts to stop impaired driving.  And, we also want to help you.  Meetings are held monthly.  Please contact MADD Kitsap County at the above address, phone or e-mail for your support and your ideas and projects.
