Victim Services

The lives of families and friends are irreversibly changed because of the tragic loss or injuries sustained to loved ones by the sudden, violent, preventable crime of drunk driving. Our victim services, a network of trained volunteers who work with a part-time staff member, provide much-needed support to grieving families. This support includes sitting in the courtroom, helping families talk to the prosecutor, and helping victims fill out the paperwork required for compensation.

“During the loss of our son and brother Deputy Eddie Miller, MADD supported our family in a loving and caring way. Their commitment to families who have lost loved ones to drunk drivers is unmatched in today’s society.” – The Miller Family, Putnam County

Through our Victim Assistance program we help those who have been injured or experienced the loss of a loved one due to a drunk driving crash. All of the services MADD-WV offers are free of charge and confidential. Below is a listing of those services:

1. Literature to help you cope emotionally and to guide you through the criminal and/or civil justice system.

2. Information about impaired driving laws and victims rights.

3. Introduction to other people who share a similar victimization experience.

4. Court accompaniment.

5. Victim support groups.

6. Information and assistance in preparing victim impact statements for court.

7. Information and assistance in applying for Crime Victim Compensation benefits to cover expenses related to the crash.

8. Referrals for professional counseling if needed.

9. Information and referrals for civil attorneys if needed.

Let Margie Sadler, MADD-WV's Victim Advocate, know how she can help you and your family. Call 304-776-0222 or 1-800-776-0635 or e-mail margie.sadler@madd.org .
