MADD Colorado Events
MADD Appreciation Event (February 2013)
The MADD Appreciation Event recognizes those community stakeholders and volunteers who are most invested in MADD. The event is an opportunity for MADD’s stakeholders, volunteers, and staff to celebrate their many accomplishments of the past year. Each attendee receives a certificate recognizing their contributions to MADD’s important mission.
Walk Like MADD (August 3, 2013)
Walk Like MADD is MADD Colorado’s annual 5K walk. In 2011, Walk Like MADD will celebrate its 6th Anniversary at Sloan’s Lake Park in Denver. In addition to raising funds to support MADD’s vital mission to support victims and eliminate drunk driving, Walk Like MADD brings together families, friends, law enforcement, nonprofit organizations, and companies who care about keeping our communities safe. And with a Health & Safety fair, a bicycle safety village, a kids zone, a pet area, and much more, there are opportunities to learn, grow, and have fun.
Law Enforcement Recognition Event (September)
In 2012, MADD Colorado, Youth In Action and UMADD Members presented 20 awards to outstanding Colorado Law Enforcement Officers dedicated to MADD’ s mission at the MADD Colorado Law Enforcement Recognition Event at Mile High Station in Denver. Nominations were received from various law enforcement agencies throughout the state of Colorado. The final 20 recipients were chosen from a panel of experts which included representatives from State highway safety agencies, as well as MADD Colorado volunteers, Youth In Actions Teams and UMADD members.
Candlelight Vigil (November 2013)
Each year, MADD Colorado provides a voice for the victims and families impacted by drunk driving at its annual Candlelight Vigil. The Vigil provides a forum for bereaved people, injured crash survivors, and their caregivers to reflect, share, comfort and be comforted. Victims and survivors of impaired driving crashes light a candle and recite the name of the person they pay tribute to. A slideshow presentation depicts photographs of those killed and injured on local roadways. The public can light a virtual candle online and write a tribute in remembrance and hope.
Tie One On For Safety (Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day)
Celebrating its 27th anniversary, Tie One On For Safety is MADD’s largest community awareness campaign that advocates for people to drive safe, sober, and buckled up during the holiday season. Drivers display a MADD red ribbon in a visible location on their vehicles or tied to their car keys to show family, friends, and loved ones that they support safer roads free from drunk driving. This year, MADD Colorado aims to distribute over 10,000 ribbons in Colorado!
