Founded by a mother whose daughter was killed by a drunk driver, Mothers Against Drunk Driving® (MADD) is the nation’s largest nonprofit working to protect families from drunk driving and underage drinking. With the help of those who want a safer future, MADD’s Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving® will end this danger on America’s roads. PowerTalk 21™ is the national day for parents to talk with their kids about alcohol, using the proven strategies of Power of Parents, It’s Your Influence™ to reduce the risk of underage drinking. And as one of the largest victim services organizations in the U.S., MADD also supports drunk driving victims and survivors at no charge, serving one person every 10 minutes at 1-877-MADD-HELP.
Together, these programs ensure that MADD achieves its lifesaving mission.
13th Annual Law Enforcement Symposium
On May 3, 2013 and May 4, 2013 MADD Florida held its 13th Annual Law Enforcement Symposium which included a 2-day impaired and drugged driving training for law enforcement from across Florida. Over 130 people were in attendance. Included in this total were 70 deserving law enforcement officers who received training scholarships that were made possible, in part, thanks to the Florida Department of Transportation grant received by MADD Florida.
This 8-hour training covered the current status and initiatives of enforcement and prosecution in drug impaired driving crimes in the state of Florida to law enforcement officers, prosecutors, MADD staff and volunteers. Garret Berman, Florida's Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor, provided worthwhile training on Prosecution of Impaired Driving Crimes in addition to explaining the Supreme Court ruling on Missouri vs. McNeely. Sgt. Allan Kolak, with Cape Coral Police Department, did an exceptional job teaching Law Enforcement Investigation of Impaired Driving Crimes.
"I have been removed from the DRE program for almost ten years. The re-introduction was priceless!"
"Even as a DRE, this is great to review "basics." We get used to 'technological phraseology' and wish to talk intelligently. Juries need to hear common speak and plain language."
"I think this training should be offered to all prosecutors and feel it was very well presented."
"Though I am only a MADD volunteer, I found this seminar to be extremely informative. It was well worth my time and eye opening. Mr. Berman is an excellent teacher."
Law Enforcement Recognition Dinner
This annual event provides a meaningful way for MADD Florida to recognize law enforcement officers who work diligently to support the mission of MADD and its Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving. MADD is proud to acknowledge the courage and strength of these officers in their committed efforts.
MADD Florida celebrates another fantastic Law Enforccement Recognition Dinner. With over 370 people in attendance, the overwhelming support of this event assisted in raising over $19,000. These donations will help save lives and serve people through MADD’s vital victim services and awareness programs provided at no cost to communities throughout Florida. Special thanks to our Keynote Speaker Kari Miller.
