MADD Mothers Against Drunk Driving is constantly working to prevent underage drinking in our community.  Unfortunately, 3/10 eighth graders drink alcohol in the United States and 3/4 teens try alcohol before graduating high school.  Below are the ways Southeast Texas MADD educates youth on the dangers of underage drinking and drunk driving.

1) “Power of Parents, It’s Your Influence” is a free 30-minute workshop for parents or caring adults to learn how to communicate with their children about the dangers of underage drinking and drunk driving.

 2) MADD’s Youth Presentations are geared towards educating youth in schools, community centers, and juvenile probation facilities on the dangers of underage drinking and drunk driving.  Youth presentations involve statistics, tips for fighting peer pressure, health & safety facts, and a story from a victim-survivor.

 3) Our Community Service Program helps offenders of all ages realize their court-ordered time served at MADD greatly benefits the organization.

 4) Youth in Action (YIA) and University MADD (UMADD) are youth groups in schools that conduct community awareness activities to prevent minors from accessing alcohol.

Success Story-

Thank you so much for coming to speak to my Health Class!  We had quite a bit of discussion after y’all left.  The stories on DVD really spoke to the students hearts.  It truly helped them understand what it would be like to lose a loved one because of a drunk driver.  They could feel and understand the pain they spoke of.  That was my goal for them as a class- to understand the pain drunk drivers cause so they would never do that themselves.  Thanks for taking the time to come and speak!”
