Sample Sticker Shock Letter to Law Enforcement

DATE _______, 2008

Dear Sheriff/ Chief __________,

My name is Tara McGuire and I’m the State Youth Program Coordinator for Mothers Against Drunk Driving Kentucky State Office.  On DATE/S OF PROJECT_________, 2006 ________ County Youth in Action teams will be traveling around _________ participating in a project called “Sticker Shock.”  Youth in Action teams are groups of students brought together by their common interest in reducing social and retail availability of alcohol to minors and to ensure enforcement of underage drinking laws.

The “Sticker Shock” project is geared to raise public awareness about underage drinking and youth access to alcohol and to strengthen the laws against providing alcohol to a minor.  “Sticker Shock” is a statewide public awareness campaign that places brightly yellow colored stickers on multi packs of beer, wine coolers, and other alcohol products that appeal to underage drinkers.  The stickers are 3 x 3.5 and students are instructed not to place sticker that cover up the Surgeon Generals warning, UPC bar code or name of product.  This project usually last 45-60 minutes.

I wanted to personally extend an invitation to come along with us or send a department representative on DATE/S OF PROJECT ___________.  I understand, due to scheduling, you might not be able to attend; however, I wanted you and your department to be aware of the project.  The students intend to conduct “Sticker Shock” again and I will inform you of that as well.  Below you will find a schedule of the stores that have agreed to participate.

Thank you and if you have any questions please contact at your convenience.

Sincerely,

Tara McGuire
State Youth Program Coordinator
