MADD and the National Football League joined forces in 2010 to collaborate on player and employee programs, game day initiatives, community relations and awareness programs to promote MADD’s efforts to prevent drunk driving. As a first step in this partnership, MADD representatives presented to incoming NFL players at the 2010 NFL Rookie Symposium.

For the fourth year, MADD and the National Football League are partnering to remind fans to “play the most important position in the NFL—the designated driver!” MADD members will attend select NFL football games this fall, provide information at MADD booths, as well as circulate through the parking lots promoting the importance of designating a non-drinking driver before the game begins.  Through this partnership, MADD has helped teams raise their sign-ups for non-drinking designated drivers by an average of 28 percent each year.

For the 2013-2014 season, we’re partnering with the Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears, Cincinnati Bengals, Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns, Arizona Cardinals, San Diego Chargers, San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, Oakland Raiders and Tennessee Titans to help keep fans safe.

In addition to the game-day program, MADD and the NFL want to help prevent the 4,700 deaths each year caused by teen alcohol use. Teens can take a stand through the MADD’s Power of You(th)® Facebook page by signing the pledge to not drink before age 21 and to never ride in a car with someone who’s been drinking. The National Football League also has endorsed MADD’s Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving®.  NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell made the announcement stating, “We are pleased to endorse MADD’s Campaign and further build upon our partnership to do everything we can to warn players, team personnel and fans about the dangers of drunk driving.  We have made progress but have more work to do to ensure that everyone associated with the NFL makes safe, responsible decisions with alcohol and never gets behind the wheel when they shouldn’t.”

MADD also serves in an advisory role to the NFL in its initiatives and continues to develop other opportunities to generate awareness, promote responsible behavior and prevent drunk driving.
