Each day, we share the road with more than 300,000 impaired drivers in the United States for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs with only 4,000 arrests made each day. Each of those arrests is made by a law enforcement officer … and each day we should thank them for their service to keep our families safe by making our roads safer.

January 9th, however, is a special day for thanks.

National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

It’s National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. It’s a day when all of us should say a collective thank you to officers who put their lives on the line to keep us safe. We should all take time to honor the brave men and women for the service and dedication they show each day.

There are several ways you can say thank you with your actions.

  • Display a show of support with a decal on your car or house window.
  • Bring coffee and treats to your local police station.
  • Or if you see someone on duty, stop and give them a coffee gift card.

These are small tokens, but I know they will appreciate it.

However, you decide to say thank you — know that MADD is saying thank you as well.

Each year, I travel to states around the country to present awards at Law Enforcement Recognition gatherings. It’s a way that I can say thank personally as well as for MADD.

This year, on January 9th, let’s all say thank you together.
