Plan a Safe Thanksgiving with These Tips

Heavy traffic on the roads is no fun, but it’s a part of life. There are times when the roads are clear and times when vehicles are at a standstill.

And then there’s Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving weekend, which the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) defines as 6:00 p.m. the Wednesday before Thanksgiving to 5:59 a.m. the following Monday, sees more cars on the roads than any other time of the year.

The number of drivers increases all over. People are leaving work early, driving long distances and racing to get a head start on the holiday.

Around the Thanksgiving holiday, you can count on another thing increasing: alcohol consumption. Unfortunately, Thanksgiving weekend is the most deadly holiday period of the year for drunk driving crashes.

Now is the time to start thinking about how to keep yourself and your loved ones safe. Whether you’re driving across town or across the state, make sure you’re doing your part to keep the roads safe.

Here are few tips for a safe Thanksgiving weekend:

  • Plan a safe ride home – Use rideshare, public transportation or designate a sober driver. Think about your best option before you head out to celebrate.
  • Report drunk drivers – If you see a drunk driver on the road, report it to local law enforcement. You could save lives.
  • Hosting a party? – A great host is always prepared. Click here to view our Thanksgiving Host Essentials.
  • Click-it – Always wear your seat belt. Even if you’re doing everything right, you could still be involved in a crash. Wearing your seat belt will increase your chance of survival.

Share this information with your loved ones. It could save their lives and others. Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!
