Volunteer of the Week: Stephanie Ramirez

MADD would not be where it is today without the determination of our volunteers. It takes everyone to eliminate drunk and drugged driving. This month, we honor you, our amazing volunteers.

This week, we recognize Stephanie Ramirez. In April of 2014, Stephanie lost her niece, Ana, in a drunk driving crash. Since then, Stephanie has been a consistent presence at MADD Colorado programs and is always willing to go extra miles for MADD’s mission. She participates in MADD Victim Impact Panels and Power of You(th)® presentations. She also presents to law enforcement cadets to encourage increased enforcement.  Stephanie never would have believed that she would become a public speaker, but she does it for Ana.

Stephanie participated in our Victim Assistance Training Institute (VATI) and is now trained in assisting victims. Since receiving her training, she provides excellent peer support to other victims of single-car crashes. Furthermore, she empowers the victims to process their grief in healthy ways and she inspires victims to volunteer with MADD. She also attends sentencing hearings whenever possible and provides support in person to victims and on calls before and after.

Stephanie and her son volunteer at the Denver Walk Like MADD® event. They help in the Victim Tribute area, where families can gather to get emotional support during the walk, and in the Denver Candlelight Vigil. She is constantly referring to MADD services throughout the community. In 2017, she won MADD Oregon’s Barbara Brodt Volunteer of the Year Award.

No matter what she is asked to do, Stephanie is always willing to help. She is a true rockstar!
