Location: Irving, Texas

MADD Texas is looking for an energetic, motivated, highly organized, and experienced Volunteer Resources Specialist to support MADD’s lifesaving mission. Previous experience in volunteer recruitment, training and management is a must. Looking for candidates with excellent networking, communication, and budgeting skills. Public speaking experience preferred. Some nights and weekends required. Bilingual a plus, but not required.


Responsible for building volunteer capacity through the planning, coordination and implementation of MADD’s Driven to Save Lives volunteer program at the State and Local level. Work with staff and volunteers, providing direction and coordination for all volunteer functions. Develop community relationships to promote volunteer opportunities within MADD.

Foster a culture of philanthropy within MADD. Be a leader for other staff and volunteers to institutionalize philanthropy within the organization.


  1. With staff input, regularly conduct mission specific needs assessments in support of the various areas of operations including but not limited to – victim services, programs and fundraising events/walk events. Develop strategies for growing the volunteer base in conjunction with State, Affiliate and Chapter overall goals and objectives.
  2. Foster community support for volunteer opportunities. Identify community outreach resources such as fairs, events, organizations, key individuals etc. to recruit potential volunteers.
  3. Recruit, screen, interview and select volunteers. Utilizing the volunteer program job descriptions, match the skills, experiences and expectations of volunteers to the appropriate job. Complete all relevant background checks per MADD policies.
  4. Plan, schedule and conduct new volunteer orientation and training. Provide appropriate tools (job descriptions, handbooks, manuals etc.) and ensure volunteers understand MADD’s policies and procedures.
  5. Schedule and coordinate attendance of volunteers at various MADD trainings, educational programs and events. Work with volunteers to create volunteer–led events and mission related programs and services.
  6. Provide guidance, training and support to staff working with volunteers. Develop and facilitate effective working relationships between staff and volunteers. Take a leadership role to monitor, evaluate and document individual volunteer performance. Resolve conflicts and effectively address volunteer and staff concerns.
  7. Maintain volunteer records & schedules and collect, input and report data on all volunteers, their activities and contributions. Monitor the program and evaluate impact and recommend revisions in relation to goals and objectives. Work with national and/or local staff/volunteer leaders to effectively engage volunteers to meet program goals and objectives.
  8. Plan and implement volunteer recognition programs. Conduct volunteer feedback meetings. Nurture volunteers to improve their connection to the organization, working collaboratively to increase volunteer satisfaction and commitment.
  9. Provide consistent and open communication between volunteers and staff. Ensure supervisor/local management is kept abreast of all activities that involve the volunteer program.


  1. Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Business Administration, Non-profit Management or related degree with one to two years coordinating volunteers and events, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Some travel and flexible hours necessary.
  3. Strong organizational skills, be detail oriented with the ability to prioritize, manage multiple projects and execute in a high-volume environment.
  4. Excellent communication skills with the ability to develop and convey thoughts clearly, logically and concisely both orally and in writing, using appropriate grammar and command of the English language.
  5. Ability to work both independently and with others to resolve issues and maintain composure and professionalism in an environment of changing and/or multiple priorities.
  6. Must be able to work on a time table, meet deadlines, follow instructions and accept direction on given assignments.
  7. Strong work ethic with the ability to maintain a high activity level.
  8. Ability to tolerate stressful situations and maintain a professional demeanor during times of stress.
  9. Must have exceptional internal and external customer service orientation.
  10. Must have demonstrated computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook and be familiar with entering data into on-line systems. Should also have basic record keeping and math skills.
  11. Must have working knowledge of company policies and procedures.
  12. Ability to maintain social, ethical and organizational standards in job related activities, at work and in the community.
  13. Ability to maintain workplace confidentiality and take ownership/accountability for own actions and aspects of the job.
  14. Demonstrated commitment, passion and compassion for the mission of MADD.


This field position may be funded by a grant for a specific period of time.  In the event the grant is discontinued, the position may be eliminated.

Typical Physical and Mental Demands

This position requires working in an office setting and is generally considered sedentary, although this position may require long hours, handling conflicts and making decisions under pressure. This position may require you to: be in a stationary position for extended periods; move or traverse in a space for short periods; occasionally transport items with a maximum weight of 25 pounds (such as boxes); communicate with other individuals; and perceive and exchange information. The noise level is from quiet to moderate.  This position requires the ability to operate a computer and other office machines such as fax, calculator and telephone.  This position must be able to maintain confidentiality.  This position may require a valid State Driver’s License and proof of insurance because the individual may be required to drive to alternate locations away from the office.  Critical thinking, active learning, listening, writing, speaking, negotiating, persuasion, judgment and the ability to work under pressure may be mandatory for this position.

Salary $40,000
