Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Georgia Awarded Grant by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is pleased to announce that the Georgia affiliate has received $158,933 from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) for the 2022 grant year.

MADD Georgia will use the funds to continue to offer educational programs for prevention and awareness of impaired driving and underage drinking with its Power of Parents and Power of You(th) programs. The grant provides much-needed funding to reduce the occurrence of drunk and drugged driving throughout Georgia by providing DUI prevention initiatives for law enforcement, education, and community groups. MADD will also utilize these resources to support GOHS campaigns such as Hands Across the Border, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, Click It or Ticket, and law enforcement recognition events, including MADD Georgia’s Annual Golden Shield Honors. MADD Georgia program staff serves as a team member on the state’s Impaired Driving Task Force.

“With the increase in the number of persons killed in traffic crashes in Georgia and across the nation over the last year, the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety is working with partners like MADD to implement programs designed to stop the risky driving behaviors that are contributing to a majority of our serious-injury and fatality crashes,” Allen Poole, Director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety said.” “Many of the fatal traffic crashes on our roads are preventable, and we will continue to work with our educational and enforcement partners to develop programs and initiatives that are designed to get Georgia to our goal of zero traffic deaths.”

The grant period for this award is October 1, 2021, to September 30, 2022.
