My beautiful, intelligent, kind hearted, athletic 18 yr old daughter, Kaitlyn Elizabeth Duffy, a high school senior a month away from graduating with honors with a 4.4 GPA, receive her Girl Scout Gold Award and planned to attend Virginia Tech in the Fall, was killed on May 19, 2017 @ 3:19 pm in Virginia Beach, VA by a drunk and high furniture delivery truck driver.
He drove an uninspected, unroadworthy 10,000 lb fully loaded box truck, while on his 6th suspended license, head on into my daughter killing her then cowardly ran from the scene only after he disposed of the cocaine he had in his possession. Thankfully the police caught him and he was convicted of all the charges on September 10, 2018 and sentenced to the maximum of 47 yrs in prison! Unfortunately it is us, her family and friends, who are serving a life sentence without our beautiful daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend.
Kaitlyn was coming home from a beautiful Friday afternoon at the beach with her friends only two short weeks before her senior prom, her newly altered prom gown still hanging in our front hallway, when he brutally killed her and our 18 week old puppy Macey and gravely injured her best friend Sabrina in the front passenger seat. Sabrina miraculously survived but suffered a TBI and severe orthopedic injuries. She will never be the same person again either.
There is ABSOLUTELY no excuse to ever drink/drug and drive EVER, especially in this day and age of Uber and Lyft.
Drinking and driving has destroyed me and my family’s life as we knew it. It’s all but destroyed our marriage and has crushed our son’s heart permanently over the loss of his only sibling.
Kaitlyn was someone who was going to change this world for the better and help others by her dream of becoming a doctor one day. She stood up for other kids who were bullied in school and loved everyone and they loved her right back. All that was stolen by a selfish person who made A CHOICE to not do the right thing.
People need to make better choices for the sake of all humankind.
I love you to the moon and back Kaitlyn Elizabeth, until I see your beautiful face again one day,
❤️ Mom #flyhighduffy
