MADD, Highway Nation Partner to Eliminate Drunk Driving

DALLAS (FEBRUARY 07, 2019) Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is proud to announce a new partnership with Highway Nation LLC, the maker of the Wrong Way Driver Alert System that detects and reports wrong-way drivers in real time to users of its app.

This is yet another way in which MADD supports technology and understands the critical role technology will play in eliminating fatalities and injuries on our roadways. In addition to the app, Highway Nation has developed a monitoring system for law enforcement officers to support a more proactive response to wrong-way drivers.

“All too often, drunk drivers also become wrong-way drivers, wreaking havoc on our nation’s roadways,” said MADD National President Helen Witty. “We know that technology will play a major role in eliminating drunk driving, and we value partners like Highway Nation who are looking for creative uses of technology to fight this leading killer on our roads.”

Drunk driving kills almost 11,000 people every year. MADD provides free supportive services to drunk and drugged driving victims and is the leading voice in awareness and advocacy, urging everyone to designate a non-drinking driver if their plans include alcohol. Since MADD’s founding in 1980, drunk driving deaths have decreased by 50 percent, 380,000 lives have been saved, and nearly one million victims have been served.

“The Wrong Way Driver application utilizes 21st century technology to help solve a serious problem on our roads and, as an insurance professional, this is very important”, said Bert Robinson, Premier Educators Insurance and Financial Services Agent. “This application is not limited by line of site but incorporates the latest GPS satellite technology in an early alert and warning system right to your mobile device or vehicle dashboard system allowing for swift deployment of governmental organizations and public safety divisions to save lives.”

As part of MADD’s Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving, launched in 2006, MADD advocates for development of advanced technology to help reach our goal of No More Victims. For more information on the Campaign, visit https://www.madd.org/the-solution/drunk-driving/#enforcement
