MADD Statement on Two Recent DUI Arrests of NFL Players Following Sunday Wins

The past two Monday mornings, NFL players have been arrested for suspected drunk driving. At about 4 a.m. on January 3, Raiders player Nate Hobbs was allegedly found asleep in his car on the exit ramp of a parking garage. Yesterday morning, Seahawks player Geno Smith was arrested on suspicion of DUI at 2:10 a.m., both following their teams’ Sunday night wins.

We are thankful no one was injured in these incidents, but we know that drunk driving can have devastating consequences for entire communities. We are calling for everyone to understand that the choices they make have consequences for themselves and others. We want people to have fun and celebrate their victories but to do so with a plan for getting home safely, whether it’s calling a friend, using a rideshare app, taxi, car service or any other non-drinking designated driver.

– MADD National President Alex Otte
