Tennessee Commemorates the 158 Lives Lost to Impaired-Driving Crashes in 2016

NASHVILLE – On Thursday, December 1, the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) will be joined by the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police (TACP), the Tennessee Sheriffs’ Association (TSA), and Mothers Against Drunk Driving® (MADD) for a press event promoting National Drunk and Drugged Driving (3D) Prevention Month to raise awareness and educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving. The event begins at 2:30 p.m. in Millennium Maxwell House Hotel. Additionally, Polk County residents Ronald and Shirley Singleton will tell the story of their three-year-old son, Brady, who was killed on April 29, 2008, as a result of an impaired-driving crash. Currently, preliminary data shows that in 2016 there were 158 fatalities known to involve impaired driving in Tennessee. This time last year, there were 223. During the holiday season, the THSO will partner with law enforcement agencies across the state to execute sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols to help prevent crashes, injuries, and fatalities. The THSO reminds Tennesseans to always find a sober ride home because no life is worth losing to impaired driving.
