MADD Kicks Off Walk Like MADD Countdown

The countdown to the 2018 Walk Like MADD Columbia Presented by Uber on April 14th is officially underway, kicked off at a luncheon that brought together volunteers, team captains, law enforcement, sponsors, and staff.  Thompson Funeral Homes, one of our Walk sponsors, hosted the event on March 10th that got us all even more excited about the approaching Walk.

At the event, Walk Chair Patricia Voelker presented The Myles Project Team with a new Canon camera as they won the prize for being a $1,000 team.

Travis Mayo, representing our Honor Family, shared about his son, Brandon, who was killed in a 2013 crash.  He also told about his new passion of driving for Uber as a way to keep others safe and to honor Brandon.  He tells most riders why he drives and shared that he will be donated two weekends of his Uber pay to his Walk team.

Finally, MADD announced the 5K Challenge where an anonymous donor will donate $1,000 to the first five teams that get to $1,000 in their fundraising.  This is an incredible boost to our efforts and has already caused quite a bit of excitement among our team captains.  Within five days, two additional teams reached the $1,000 mark, bringing the total to three.

If you haven’t registered or donated yet, now is a great time!  Visit www.walklikemadd.org/columbia to be a part of this great event on Saturday night, April 14th!
