Voices of Victims: Megan Milam

Megan Amelia Milam was a beautiful 24-year-old daughter and mother. She had a very unique laugh and smile that would brighten anyone she came in contact with. Megan was a strong and brave woman that rarely met a stranger. She considered her two children to be her greatest accomplishments. On November 12, 2016, Megan’s laugh was forever silenced by a careless decision of a drunk driver.

Megan’s 8-year-old daughter was a passenger in the car and had to watch helplessly as her mother took her last breath. Megan’s 7-year-old son was home with neighbors and had no idea of how drastically their lives were changing. Megan’s family not only had to suffer the loss of Megan but also had the heartbreaking task of telling the children their mother was gone forever. Every milestone that the children have reached in the past 2 ½ years has been without Megan by their side. They are forced to walk through their lives now without her. Instead of celebrating Mother’s Day and birthdays with Megan, they visit her grave and ask for the one thing they want most in this world, their mom back.

On May 30, 2019, the drunk driver was sentenced to 12 years in prison with the balance suspended upon the completion of seven years.
