Patricia Voelker Receives Survivor Award

Our esteemed Walk Like MADD volunteer Chair, Patricia Voelker, received the Victims’ Rights Week 2017 Distinguished Survivor Award. The award was presented on April 12th at the 2017 SC Crime Victims’ Rights Week Conference in Columbia. Patricia was chosen from nominees around the state for her tireless work with MADD SC’s Walk Like MADD Columbia.

MADD SC’s Program Director, Steven Burritt, and Victim Services Specialists, Kimberly Cockrell and Kelly Stafford, were in attendance for the awards ceremony. Board member and longtime MADD SC volunteer, Laura Hudson, also sat at the MADD table to congratulate Patricia.

After receiving the award, Patricia was asked to give a speech. In true Patricia fashion, she made sure she used the award acceptance as an opportunity to not only speak about her “boys” and the consequences of drinking and driving, but to also promote the Walk. Patricia spoke about the reason Walk Like MADD is so important to her–that reason being the four McConnell men who were killed by a drunk driver.

Congratulations Patricia and thank you for all of your hard work and dedication.
