New York

Help stop drunk and drugged drunk driving in New York by contacting your state lawmakers below

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) needs your help to advance four DWI reform measures in New York.

Why does MADD need your help? From 2019 to 2021, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), drunk driving deaths increased from 256 to 388—an 52% increase!

Help us support:

  • S 776 by Senator Liu and A 1627 by Assemblywoman Simon would make New York the second state with a .05 BAC per se law.
  • S 775 by Senator Cooney and A 4171 by Assemblywoman Woerner fixing the ignition interlock law.
  • A 174 by Assemblyman Magnarelli and S 3135 by Senator Mannion improving the drug-impaired driving law.
  • A 1776 by Assemblyman Meeks and S 2572 by Senator Gounardes to require impaired drivers to pay child support when an impaired driver causes a crash that kills a parent or guardian.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) needs your help to fix a New York law written in 1847 that hinders the rights of victims to obtain justice following a DWI crash. MADD needs your help to call on the Governor to sign into law the Grieving Families Act.

What is the Grieving Families Act? A6698 by Assemblywoman Weinstein and S6636 by Senator Hoyman-Sigal was enacted this week by state lawmakers and allows courts to consider emotional loss and grief when compensating bereaved close family members who have lost a loved one due to negligence. Under New York’s outdated law, an award for wrongful death is limited to compensation for economic loss only, effectively telling close family members that the love, companionship, and guidance our loved one once provided, count for nothing.
