Great Turnout for West Tennessee Walk Like MADD 2019

Almost 200 people participated in this year’s West Tennessee Walk Like MADD at the Memphis Zoo on September 28, 2019. The 18 teams which joined the event to help raise money to support MADD’s mission to eliminate drunk driving, fight drugged driving, prevent underage drinking, and support the victims of these crimes, have surpassed the $25,000 event goal to raise $26,212 so far! (Walkers can still submit donations to Team Captains through October 28.) This year’s Top Team was Team Maddie & Rachel which brought in almost $10,000! Our Top Fundraiser was Jack Kruse who asked for support from his Iowa State fraternity brothers in honor of his sister, Maddie.

This year’s Law Enforcement competition looked very different from past years as two of our teams were touched directly by an alleged impaired driving crash. The Memphis Police Department walked this year in honor of Lt. Myron Fair, Sr., a 25-year MPD veteran who was killed on his way home from work when he was hit by a repeat DUI offender who was charged with vehicular homicide, reckless driving, possession of a controlled substance, and leaving the scene of a crash involving death. Lt. Fair’s wife, Joyce, works for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. They walked alongside her and her family this year and won the honor of Top Law Enforcement Team.

MADD is also grateful for the support of our corporate partners without whom this event would not be possible. State Farm Insurance served as a Gold Partner this year and Lofton Wells Insurance served as a Bronze Partner.
