Memorial Sign Erected for Officer Keith Dunaway
MADD Tennessee was proud to attend a ceremony on Saturday, July 1, 2017, for the unveiling of a new Memorial Sign in honor of Officer Keith Dunaway. Officer Dunaway was riding with his wife, Lori, and their three-old-daughter, Taylor, on August 7, 2015, when they were struck by a drunk driver who crossed the center line and hit them in a head-on collision. Keith was killed in the crash. Lori and Taylor were both injured.
Officer Dunaway had served as a Knox County Schools Security Officer assigned to Northshore Elementary School. Several family and friends gathered to honor him for the ceremony, held a day before what would have been his 31st birthday, including his sister who spoke on his behalf.
The sign, erected near the site of the crash along Oak Ridge Highway, near West Emory Road at mile marker 1.9 in Oak Ridge, reads “Impaired Driving Costs Lives. In Memory of Officer M. Keith Dunaway.”
The driver in the crash pled guilty to vehicular homicide and vehicular assault and was sentenced to eight years in prison.
The memorial sign program, established, in July 2016, allows family members of victims killed in impaired driving crashes to apply for signs to be erected in their honor. Click here for more information on eligibility requirements and contact information.
