Saturation Saturday Aims to get Impaired Drivers Off Our Roadways

MADD’s Saturation Saturday includes increased DUI patrols and other enforcement efforts aimed at preventing impaired driving and catching those who make the wrong choice. MADD staff and volunteers — while maintaining a safe distance — participate in law enforcement roll calls, checkpoints and ride alongs to reinforce enforcement activities.

Our participation in the MADD 2020 Saturation Saturday DWI initiative was a success. The 8 officers and myself accounted for 54 traffic stops between 2200 hrs Saturday night and 0400 hrs Sunday morning. Those stops results in 5 DWI arrests and 1 Parole Revocation (Family Violence) arrest. One of the DWI arrests also resulted in a quantity of marijuana being seized.

Dallas PD had 10 officers total sign up to work the event from their seven patrol stations, plus the 4 DWI officers from our Traffic Unit and had 14 DWI arrests.

Idalou PD provided 5 patrol officers to patrol HWY 62/82 for DWI Detection and Enforcement, conducted 26 traffic stops, responded to a vehicle rollover accident, and was involved in a pursuit. Idalou Police Department apprehended 2 impaired drivers. Of the two that were arrested both refused to provide breath specimens. Lab results are pending. Idalou PD had a successful night of DWI enforcement and hopes to participate in future events with MADD.

GPPD made 6 DWI arrests that night. Irving PD made 10 DWI arrests. Thank you to all of our participating police departments. Saturation Saturday was a success and saved many lives.
